Man in hospital after car blaze outside home in Salford

A man has been taken to hospital after a car fire in Salford tonight.

There were reports of a major response from the emergency services on Church Road in Walkden at around 6pm.

Police, fire and ambulance services responded to the scene after reports of a blaze involving a vehicle outside a home.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an 'explosion'.

An air ambulance landed at the scene and a man has been taken to hospital with burn injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, but it is understood the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said tonight: "We were called at 6.05pm to reports of a fire on Church Road in Worsely.

"One fire engine from Farnworth and one from Eccles attended the scene.

"We have extinguished a fire involving a vehicle. "

"One man has been taken to Wythenshawe Hospital suffering from burn injuries.

"We're still at the scene along with police and North West Ambulance Service."
