Man in hospital after being attacked by group in Bristol city centre

A man has been taken to hospital after he was assaulted by a group of other men in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, August 1).

The man, who has not been named by police, is in his twenties and was rushed to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

Avon and Somerset Police said they were called at 5.55am to an area between the fountains and St Augustine's Way - the road in front of the Hippodrome - in The Centre, to reports of violence.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and will be scouring footage from CCTV cameras in the area of the attack.

Police cordoned off an area around the trees and benches next to the cycle path down the side of The Centre, and the cordon remained in place under police guard for around three hours this morning while the scene was examined.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police confirmed: "An investigation is underway following an assault in Bristol city centre this morning (Sunday, August 1).

"We were called at 5.55am and told a male, in his twenties, had been assaulted by a number of males in The Centre.

"The victim was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"We'd please ask witnesses to contact us online or on 101, quoting reference number 5221174802," he added.
