Man in hospital after attack in Stockport town centre

A man has been rushed to hospital following a broad daylight attack in Stockport town centre.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was assaulted on Princes Street, close to the busy Merseyway shopping centre.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A cordon is in place close to the Debenhams department store while investigation work is carried out.

Nobody has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At around 1pm today (Monday May 20, 2019), police were called to reports of an assault on Princes Street in Stockport.

"Emergency services attended and the victim – a man in his 30s - has been taken to hospital, where he remains.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 999 of May 20. Reports can also be made via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
