Man in his 90s taken to hospital after being hit by car

A man in his 90s has been taken to hospital after being involved in a collision with a car.

The male pedestrian suffered a head injury which is not thought to be serious, but he was taken to hospital as a precaution, following the incident which happened at around 8.45am on Thursday morning.

Gwent Police were called to Commercial Street in Risca following reports of a person being hit by a car.

The pedestrian was taken to Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran following the incident.

Officers are investigating what happened and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Commercial Street, Pontymister, Risca at around 8.45am on Thursday, June 3."

They added: “A man in his 90s has been taken to the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran as a precaution after sustaining a head injury, and his injuries are not thought to be serious.

“Officers attended, along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, to assist with traffic management and the road has now re-opened.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log reference 2100193531.
