A man in his 80s was knocked down by a car as he crossed the road in Knotty Ash.
Emergency services were called to East Prescot Road shortly before 5.30pm on Monday evening after the pedestrian was hit.
Paramedics and police officers quickly arrived at the scene after reports of a crash involving a Ford Focus.
A small lane closure was put in place on the road as the man was assessed by ambulance workers before being taken to hospital.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were called to East Prescot Road at around 5.20pm on Monday.
"We received reports that a Ford Focus car had been involved in a collision with a male pedestrian, believed to be in his 80s.
"The man was assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment.

"A road closure was put in place around the scene of the crash but that has now cleared."
