Man in his 80s dies following a tragic house fire in Dublin

A man in his 80s has died following a tragic house fire in Dublin this afternoon.

The pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene of the tragic blaze on Dundrum Road.

His body has since been removed to St Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown where a post-mortem is due to take place at a later date.

A female in her 80s was also taken to St Vincent’s University Hospital as a precaution.

The fire broke out shortly after 4 pm this afternoon on the Dundrum Road.

Dublin Fire Brigade released the following statement on their social media account: "Unfortunately, a man has died following a fire in his home in Dundrum this afternoon. A woman was treated on scene and transported to hospital for further treatment. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and neighbours at this especially difficult time.

A garda spokesman confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.
