A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital after crashing into the back of a Chinese Buffet in St Helens.

The incident happened at around 12.50pm today on Exchange Street in the city centre and the elderly man is being treated for facial and leg injuries - he is described to be conscious and breathing.

Reports from witnesses said a large emergency services presence was visible with fire engines, ambulance and police all in attendance.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that the car was a blue Honda Estate and has not made the building unsafe.
