Man in his 70s arrested over house fire which hospitalised two women near Navan, Co Meath

A man in his 70s has been arrested in connection with a house fire which hospitalised two women in Co Meath.

The incident took place at a house in the Beauparc area outside Navan on Wednesday evening at around 6pm.

A woman in her 70s was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda while a woman in her 40s was brought to St. James' Hospital in Dublin.

A man, aged in his 70s, was arrested and is currently being held at Navan Garda Station.

The scene is currently preserved fora technical examination and gardai say investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating a fire incident that occurred at a house in the Beauparc area of Navan on 19/05/2021 at approximately 6pm.

"Two women, aged in their 70s and 40s, were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda(70s) and St James Hospital Dublin (40s) for related injuries.

"A man, aged in his 70s, has been arrested in relation to this incident and is currently detained at Navan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination. Investigations are ongoing."
