It’s thought that the man was riding a motorbike which collided with a car.

No arrests have been made at this stage, a police spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News, with officers continuing their enquiries.

Officers were called at just after 12.10pm today to a report of a collision involving a car and a motorbike on Marsh Green in Wigan,” a statement from Greater Manchester Police said. “Emergency services attended and the driver of the motorbike was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson from the North West Ambulance Service also confirmed that the man was ‘in his 60s’.

The crash led to some bus services being diverted via nearby Montrose Avenue, transport chiefs said.

“Due to a road traffic collision on Kitt Green Road we have had to divert our 3 and 4 services via Montrose Avenue,” Stagecoach Manchester tweeted.

“We will let you know when these services return to normal route.”

Passengers can check their journeys using the Transport for Greater Manchester website.
