Man in his 60s dies after car crashes into fence in early-hours tragedy

A man in his 60s has died after a car crashed into a fence.

The incident happened on Crescent Road in Crumpsall at around 1.40am on Monday morning.

Police attended and established that a Volkswagen Golf had collided with a fence at the junction with Duchess Road.

The driver was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

His next of kin has been informed.

It is believed he may have suffered a medical episode at the wheel, police said.

An investigation is underway and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Matt Picton, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision - I'd ask anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact us."
