Man in his 60s dies after being pulled from water in Penzance

A man in his 60s has died after being pulled from the water off the coast of Cornwall this evening.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the man was 'deceased' after the rescue out at sea near Penzance Promenade.

A spokesperson for the force said they are yet to confirm the identity of the man so that his next of kin can be informed.

They said they can confirm it is "a male in his 60s", reports Cornwall Live.

A coastguard helicopter and RNLI Lifeboat were both involved in the rescue off the coast of Cornwall earlier this evening.

The incident unfolded at about 5.20pm this afternoon near the Penzance promenade.

A man was winched from the Lifeboat onto a coastguard helicopter and taken to Treliske. Police and paramedics were also involved.

An eye witness also reported a coastguard member falling from the harness and back into the sea as the casualty was being winched up.

The police spokesperson said enquiries will now continue into the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
