Man in his 50s seriously injured after being hit by bus in East Kilbride

A man in his 50s was taken to hospital with serious injuries last night after being hit by a bus in East Kilbride.

Emergency services raced to The Murray Road shortly after 8pm with police and two ambulance response units on the scene.

It is understood the accident, involving a No 6 First Bus, happened near to the Evangelical Church.

Shocked witnesses posted online.

One wrote: "Hope he's okay and that poor bus driver, I can't imagine how horrible that must have been."

And one woman added: "Literally passed there as it happened - horrendous."

A police spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : “Police were called to a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian around 8.10pm on Tuesday night.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Paul Clark, head of operations for First Glasgow, confirmed there service had been involved in the incident, and said an internal investigation would be undertaken.

He told us: “Our staff attended the scene to support the emergency services response.

"Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian at this time. We are also supporting our bus driver, who has been understandably shaken by the incident.

"An internal investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the incident.”
