A main road was closed after a man was hit by a car in the early hours of Friday.

Police and paramedics were called to Parr Stocks Road in St Helens at around 12.20am to reports of a crash between a car and a pedestrian. People living in the area described coming home to a large police presence as police cars lined the street.

A road closure was put in place while emergency services worked at the scene. Merseyside Police said the pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital after suffering injuries to his back.
