Man in his 30s dies after being hit by car in Prestwich

A man has died after being hit by a car in Prestwich .

Police and ambulance crews were scrambled to Bury New Road shortly after 2.30am on Sunday.

A man - believed to be in his 30s - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of a Mercedes Vito remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.

A section of Bury New Road remained closed in both directions until 9am on Sunday morning whilst police carried out their investigations.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man walking along Bury New Road or Butterstile Lane to get in touch.

PC Peter Cunningham from GMP’s serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and my heart goes out to the man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“We are working to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the collision and we are hoping the public might have information which could help this investigation and give this man’s family the answers they deserve.

“If you witnessed what happened, or if you saw the silver Mercedes Vito or the pedestrian prior to the collision, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage.”
