Man in his 30s arrested following garda hunt and 'shots fired' in Co Louth

A man in his early 30s has been arrested following a garda hunt for a missing car in Louth.

Gardai launched a search operation yesterday after reports of gun shots being fired.

The incident happened in the Arthurstown area of Ardee earlier on Wednesday morning.

Officers sought the public's help in tracing the whereabouts of a 11 WW registered silver Toyota Avensis afterwards.

The man is being held in under section 30 Offences Against the State Act in Drogheda Garda Station.

A garda spokesperson said: "This arrest follows an intense Garda operation in the County Louth area involving Gardaí (uniform /plainclothes) from Louth Garda Divisions, supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit and National units and also cross border co-operation with our colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

"No further action is required by the public at this time."

 Speaking this morning at Drogheda Garda Station, Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan expressed his thanks to the public and community in County Louth for their assistance and ongoing support.

Chief Superintendent Mangan also expressed his gratitude to his colleagues in Louth division stating that this operation once again demonstrates their support and ongoing dedication to keeping the people of Louth safe.
