Man in his 20s dies in single-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Cork city

A man in his twenties has died in a single vehicle accident on the outskirts of Cork city.

The accident occurred around 2.45am on Sunday morning on the Glenville Road in Ballincrokig.

A garda spokesperson said the car left the road and hit a wall.

Emergency services were called to the scene by a passerby, Cork Beo reports.

The man, who was the driver and only occupant of the car, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

However, they were unable to save his life.

The road remains closed today as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene.

The man's body has been removed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for a full post mortem examination.

His identity has been withheld pending notification of his family members.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for any person who may have any information or any road users who may have travelled the road from 2:30 – 5:30am this morning, Sunday, December 15,  that may have camera footage to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 455 8510, Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."

A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.
