Man in his 20s charged in connection with fatal hit-and-run in Letterkenny, Co Donegal

A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident which left a 30-year-old man dead in Co Donegal.

The victim, named locally as Jason Haughey, was found in a serious condition on the roadside on the outskirts of Letterkenny, at Windyhall at around 4am on Monday.

He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

After technical examinations, gardai discovered he had been hit by a vehicle which failed to stop.

A man in his 20s was later arrested and taken to Letterkenny Garda station.

A garda spokesperson said: "The man, aged in his 20s, arrested in relation to this investigation has now been charged.

"He is due to appear before Letterkenny District Court on Wednesday morning, 17/06/2020, at 10:30am."

Officers are also calling door-to-door as part of their investigation while local CCTV footage is also being harvested.

Mr Haughey’s remains were yesterday being held at Letterkenny University Hospital where a postmortem took place.

He was well-known in the town, was not married and was unemployed.
