A gunman wearing a high-visibility jacket opened fire next to a children's play park in a 'targeted' shooting.
A grey Audi pulled up in Monks Place, in the Fairfield and Howley area of Warrington , at around 9.10am yesterday morning.
Two men, both wearing yellow high-visibility jackets, got out of the car and one of them was seen firing a number of shots.
Both men then got back into the Audi and drove off.
said there were no injuries. They are treating the incident as 'targeted.'
Yesterday morning some locals told the ECHO that shots were fired at a man who was with a young child or baby . But this has not yet been confirmed by police.
The shooting happened next to a play area for children. A neighbour told the ECHO it is normally busy with children on Saturday mornings.
Superintendent Gareth Lee said: “We understand that incidents of this nature are concerning and I would like to reassure the public that we are doing all that we can to establish exactly what has taken place.
“At this time we believe that this is a targeted incident and there is no risk to the wider community.
“As part of our enquiries were keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information which may aid our investigation.
“The same goes for anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them arriving at or leaving the scene.
“Patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance and I urge anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to an officer.”
