Man in hi-vis jacket makes desperate mum sob after Lidl trip

A disabled mum-of-two said she "got in her car an cried" after a stranger's random act of kindness in a supermarket.

The mum, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the ECHO she is registered disabled with two children and suffers with chronic health conditions.

She is currently waiting on a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) application and said she is "literally counting pennies" waiting for a response.

The mum was in Lidl in Southport on Saturday (September 25) and thought she had enough money in her account to pay for her shopping.

However, an unexpected direct debit payment had come out straight away, leaving her with £10 less than she needed when she got to the till.

Embarrassed at not having enough in her account, the mum said a man wearing a hi-vis vest "swooped in" and paid for her shopping.

She said: "Instead of having £40 I had £30. He insisted on paying for it all, and wouldn’t accept the £30 I kept trying to offer him.

"The end of the month is always hard especially with young kids it’s literally counting pennies.

"I got in my car and cried because he was so generous and polite and made me feel less embarrassed about the whole thing."

After the heart-warming incident, the mum took to Facebook to find the "generous gentleman" so she could thank him for his kindness and to repay him the money.

The post received nearly 350 likes with many people posting to praise the man for his actions.

One man posted: "I was at one of the other tills before in Lidl and seen that... What a nice guy, kindness like that always comes back to you... Good vibes off you all before .. good luck in finding him."

A woman messaged: "What a good man to do this for you. One of earth's angels."

While another woman replied: "Aw that's lovely. It's unlikely he would want you to pay him back as these random acts of kindness are meant to be carried on. Someone is kind to you, so you in turn be kind to someone else, then they are kind to someone else and so it continues".

The kind stranger eventually did get in touch with the mum but said he wasn't interested in getting the money back.

The mum said: "He messaged me and asked me to continue the kindness by paying it forward to anyone else in need next month when I have a bit of money."

She added: "He was so kind about it and he spoke about being in the same position once. He was just so helpful and I was so embarrassed but he was so lovely about the whole thing."
