A man has been accused of grabbing a police officer and threatening another with a gun on the Gold Coast.

Police responded to reports of a man slumped over a parked car in the suburb of Mermaid Beach after 6am on Tuesday.

When police arrived, the man allegedly threatened officers with a revolver.

Inspector Kayleen James said the man grabbed a female officer before releasing her and fleeing.

The man then tried to gain entry to a number of vehicles before approaching a taxi driver when police arrived.

"They spoke with the male person who struggled with police and he was immediately taken into custody," Insp James said.

She said police found bullets in the man's revolver.

However she said no gun shots were fired and no one was injured.

The female officer was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital as a precaution.
