Man charged after Adelaide woman repeatedly stabbed

Police have cordoned off the North Haven street while they investigate.

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital with multiple stab wounds and a man will face an attempted murder charge after an incident at a house at North Haven in Adelaide's north-west.

Police said the 56-year-old woman allegedly was stabbed about 9:40am at the premises in Himalaya Drive.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Fisher from the Western Adelaide CIB told reporters police were swiftly on the scene.

"A patrol responded rapidly to the incident. They were met by [a man] at the front of the premises," he said.

Police took a 59-year-old man they said was known to the victim into custody and later charged with him with attempted murder.

Crime investigators cordoned off the street while they gathered evidence but police said they were unable to comment on the weapon allegedly used.
