Man in critical condition in hospital after being attacked by two men in Oldham

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked by two men in Oldham.

Police were called to reports of an assault on Edward Street at around 3.20pm on Monday.

The victim - a 43-year-old man - was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after he was attacked by two men.

He remains there in a critical condition, police said.

No arrests have been made yet and enquiries are ongoing.

A cordon remained in place on Edward Street on Tuesday as officers carry out investigation work.

Pictures taken at the scene show an alleyway taped off and a forensic tent erected.

There are also a number of police vehicles at the scene.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Shortly after 3.20pm yesterday (Monday 6 July 2020) police were called to a report of an assault on Edward Street in Oldham.

"A 43-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a critical condition after he was attacked by two men.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"There is a police cordon on Edward Street where the incident took place as police carry out their investigations."

A spokesperson from the North West Ambulance Service said: "We got a call at 3.35pm yesterday to Edward Street in Oldham.

"We have taken a male in his 40's with head injuries to the Royal Oldham Hospital."
