Man in critical condition after van crashes into wall in Ystradgynlais

A man has been taken to hospital with critical injuries after a van crashed into a wall in Ystradgynlais.

The crash happened at around 11.20pm on Wednesday night on Brecon Road - which was shut for around six hours as a result.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police were at the scene throughout the night, while the Welsh Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the area and were also supported by a team from the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) and a care specialist.

The crash involved only one vehicle - a white VW Transporter - which collided with a wall.

The driver of the van - a 35-year-old man - suffered serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance service said: “We were called last night at approximately 11.15pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais.

“We responded with two emergency ambulances and were supported by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service and a pre-hospital immediate care specialist from MEDSERVE Wales.

“One patient was taken by road to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.”

Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses and asking anyone with information about the crash to contact Brecon Roads Policing unit on 101, quoting reference DP-20200916-476.
