Man in critical condition after Swansea city centre assault

A man is still in hospital in a critical condition following an alleged assault in Swansea city centre a week ago, police revealed today.

South Wales Police has issued a fresh appeal for information about the alleged attack near Primark on St Mary’s Square at 11.25am on Saturday, June 15.

The force has also released pictures of two men it would like to speak to and a taxi whose driver detectives are trying to trace.

Three men were assaulted, and one was critically injured where he remains in a critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales.

Two men, aged 21 and 33, were arrested in connection with the incident and have since been released on bail.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Helen Woodward, said: “This was a serious assault which has left one man critically ill in hospital.

“I have a team of officers dedicated to this investigation and a number of inquiries have taken place during this last week.

“However, we are still appealing for any other witnesses to come forward. In particular, we are keen to trace three people who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident and who may have witnessed it.

“The first man was wearing a black leather jacket, the second a white gillet, and the third is a taxi driver who was in his vehicle at the scene.

“I’d urge people to cast their minds back to last Saturday – if they have information, however insignificant it may seem, I’d urge them to come forward.”

Anyone with any information which could assist the investigation are urged to contact 101, quoting occurrence 1900216232.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
