Man in 'critical condition' after one-punch assault in city centre Burger King

A man was taken to hospital after an assault at a Burger King restaurant which left him unconscious.

The incident happened just before 1am on Monday, December 23 at the Burger King restaurant in Upper Parliament Street.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning (Monday, December 23).

Officers have described the incident as a 'one-punch assault'.

The man remains in Queens Medical Centre where he is receiving treatment for a serious head injury.

It is not yet known whether his injuries are life-threatening or life-altering.

No arrests have been made in connection with the investigation and detectives are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

The man responsible for the assault is believed to be white, aged in his thirties, is around 6 foot tall and was wearing black jeans and a black top.

Police remain at the scene as detectives continue their work to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A cordon has been place across the entrance to the fast-food restaurant.

Detective Inspector Gayle Hart from Nottinghamshire Police said: “This case again underlines the fact that just one punch in the heat of the moment can have very serious consequences for all involved – not least for the victim in this sad case, who remains very unwell in hospital.

“Our focus now is to understand how the man came to be so badly injured and to identify the individual responsible for this particularly nasty assault.

"I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone who witnessed the assault or who has any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 22 of 23 December 2019.
