Man in critical condition after horror Dublin attack as Gardai make arrest

One young man has been left in a critical condition in hospital and one man arrested after a violent attack in Dublin City on Tuesday evening.

Officers rushed to the scene at O'Connell Street at around 6pm where the victim of the assault was found on the ground after receiving severe blows to the head.

The man in his 30s was treated on the scene before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital for further medical examinations.

His condition has become more stable but Gardai have said that he still remains critical following the assault.

The arrested man, also in his 30s, was caught by Gardai a short time after the attack.

He is currently being quizzed at Store Street Garda Station as investigations are ongoing.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "We are investigating an assault which occurred on O'Connell Street, Dublin on the 26th January at approximately 6:00pm.

"A male, aged in his 30s received serious injuries and is currently being treated in Beaumont Hospital."

"He is described as being in a critical condition but stable."

She added: "A male, aged in his 30s was arrested a short time later and is currently being detained in Store Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"No further information is available at the moment and investigations are ongoing."
