Man in critical condition after falling from bridge in Heywood

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from a bridge.

Police were called to Queens Park Road in Heywood, Rochdale at about 7.30am today.

Officers engaged with the man but he fell a short time later.

He was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries, with his condition being described as 'critical'.

The road has been closed in both directions between Heywood Hall Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road, as the emergency services respond.

In a statement GMP said: "Shortly after 7.30am this morning (Sunday 31 October) police were called over concerns for the welfare of a man on Queens Park Bridge in Heywood, Rochdale.

"Officers attended to engage with the man but he fell from the bridge a short time later.

"Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
