A man has faced court, accused of firing a gun at a house in suburban Newcastle earlier this week.
Police were called to the home in Platt Street, Wallsend, just before 2am on Tuesday after a report that a window had been shot.
Three adults and three children were at the property at the time, but police said no injuries were reported.
A crime scene was set up and forensic investigators combed the area.
Then, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, police stopped an allegedly stolen Toyota Camry on Lambton Road at Broadmeadow and arrested 25-year-old Mitchell John Phillips - who was driving with a 22-year-old female passenger.
Officers allegedly found a shortened shotgun, ammunition and a small amount of cannabis in the vehicle.
Mr Phillips was charged with firing a firearm at a dwelling-house with disregard for safety, using an unauthorised firearm, not keeping a firearm safely, intimidating with intention to cause fear of physical harm, receiving property stolen outside NSW and driving for a second time while disqualified.
He was also charged with two counts each of possessing a shortened firearm - not a pistol - without authority and driving a vehicle taken without the consent of the owner.
Mr Phillips did not apply for bail and it was formally refused when he faced Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.
Magistrate Robert Stone adjourned the matter to April 1.
