Man in court after dramatic police swoop leads to gun seizure at city petrol station

A man has appeared in court after a dramatic police operation that saw a gun recovered at a Liverpool petrol station.

Officers swooped on the Shell garage on Edge Lane on Saturday night in what was described as a "cross border" investigation.

A man was arrested and a handgun was seized during the incident, which saw patrol cars and unmarked police vehicles surround the forecourt.

That operation was an initiative undertaken between Merseyside Police and the Metropolitan Police.

It involved Merseyside's Matrix gun and gang-related unit and the Met's Specialist Crime Command in a joint probe tackling firearms crime.

Posting on Twitter over the weekend, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Rob Carden praised those involved in the incident, writing: "Congratulations to the Matrix Firearms Team on last night’s dramatic resolution to a cross border firearms operation."

Ibrahim Mohammed, 22 and of Brook Drive, Lambeth, has since been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a firearm of a length less than 30cm/60cm.

He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded into custody.
