Man in court after alleged Wallsend hit-and-run left two people seriously injured

A man has appeared in court after an alleged hit-and-run left two pedestrians seriously injured.

Craig Timlin is accused of being behind the wheel of a Peugeot 307 when it collided with the two men in Wallsend in November last year.

Both were taken to hospital after the suspected crash on North View, where one was initially described as being in a critical condition.

Timlin, of Westmoreland Street, in Wallsend, was later arrested and has now been charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and one of dangerous driving.

The 49-year-old was in the dock at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he was not asked to enter any pleas to the allegations.

Instead, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Jonathan Sirland, prosecuting, asked for all matters to be sent to Newcastle Crown Court.

"The invitation is to bail this defendant to Newcastle Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on January 4."

John Kirkham, defending, made no representations.

The court was told that Timlin allegedly committed the offences at around 12.30pm on North View, in Wallsend, on November 12 last year.

The two suspected victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

As reported by Chroniclelive at the time, a police cordon was put in place for more than four hours and officers carried out an investigation.

Timlin was released on unconditional bail and will next appear before Newcastle Crown Court on January 4.
