Man in court accused of growing cannabis after farm discovered at explosion site

A man is due to appear in court today charged over a cannabis farm discovered at a flat in Leeds following an explosion.

Andi Mokra, 26, of Wetherby Road, Leeds, has been charged with production of cannabis and abstracting electricity.

People for miles around described a loud boom that sounded like an earthquake and one eyewitness said an outhouse was left smoldering as debris flew up into the air.

It was soon revealed by police that a gas canister had exploded near a number of properties, at the junction of Wetherby Road and Kingsmead Drive, Wellington Hill, Leeds.

Detectives investigating the operation have confirmed that the fire was started in a pile of rubbish next to the building. The blaze resulted in a gas canister exploding, which caused extensive damage to nearby properties.

Mokra is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court this morning.

Detectives from Leeds District CID are continuing enquiries into the fire and explosion, which is being treated as arson.
