Man in 70s seriously hurt after crash involving suspected drug driver

An elderly man was left seriously hurt after a crash involving a suspected drug driver.

The victim, in his 70s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance following the crash on Edge Lane in Droylsden this morning.

He remains in hospital, after suffering 'serious injuries'.

Police said a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and 'providing a positive drug screening sample'.

Officers are continuing to investigate, and are calling for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

The North West Ambulance Service previously said the victim had suffered a head injury.

Edge Lane was partially closed at the junction with Ashton New Road for about an hour-and-a-half, as investigations at the scene continued.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called around 9.20am this morning (Friday 6 August 2021) to Edge Lane, Droylsden to reports of a collision.

"Police attended and enquiries established a car and a pedestrian had been in a collision.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains.

"Enquiries are ongoing and a 36-year-old man has been arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and providing a positive drug screening sample.

"An investigation is underway into the circumstances leading up to the collision - anybody with information or dashcam footage of this collision is asked to contact GMP's Serious Collisions Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
