
A man in his 30s tragically drowned while swimming with a friend in Lake Sikiyou near Mount Shasta in Northern California. The incident occurred when their boat drifted out of reach, as confirmed by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.
The man's body was recovered a day later after he disappeared under the water before his friend could assist him, according to a press release from the department.
The search operation commenced at the North Shore boat launch around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, with the sheriff’s office deploying dive teams, K-9 units, and drones in collaboration with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
Tragically, the man's body was found 49 feet below the surface of the lake the following day. As of now, the man has not been publicly identified, pending notification of family members, as stated by the department.
The sheriff’s department expressed gratitude to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office for providing skilled personnel and equipment, along with the dedicated volunteers of the Siskiyou County Search and Rescue Team for their assistance in the search operation.
Drowning is highlighted as a leading cause of unintentional death, with statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicating that 80% of drowning deaths involve men.
