A man in his 20s was stabbed to death in Toxteth.
Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the incident which happened at about 6.15am this morning.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene on Oakham Street following reports a man had been knifed.
The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
So far, no arrests have been made.
The motive, at this time, is unknown, officers said.
A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "The victim’s family have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers.
"The man is yet to be formally identified and a Home Office post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death.
"The scene has been cordoned off for forensic enquiries and witnesses are being spoken to.
"House to house enquiries will be carried out and CCTV from the area is also being sought.
"At this early stage the motive for the incident is unknown and officers would be keen to speak with anyone who has any information about it to contact @MerPolCC, 101 or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111."
