Man hurt in suspected acid attack at train station

A man was taken to hospital after being injured in a suspected acid attack at a railway station.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Wigan on Friday following reports of the incident at Wigan North Western station shortly after 10am.

Police reported that an 'acid like substance' had been thrown at a 23-year-old man in the train station.

The man was taken to hospital with what have since been described as minor injuries.

Greater Manchester Police are investigating the attack which they say is an isolated incident that poses no wider risk to the public.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 10am on Friday 1 October 2021, police were called to reports of an assault at Wigan North Western Train Station.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established that an acid like substance was thrown at a 23-year-old man.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
