Feb. 04--A 28-year-old man was wounded in a shooting early Thursday morning in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side, police said.
The man was sitting in a white van parked at the Citgo gas station in the 3300 block of West Harrison Street when someone in a passing silver-colored sedan fired shots at about 12:10 a.m., said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman. The shooter then fled.
The man was shot in the left shoulder. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.
The gas station's security guard had locked up for the night and was on his way to the nearby CTA Blue Line station when he heard gunshots, he said. He turned and ran back to see someone jumping into the passenger seat of the silver car.
The man who was shot had run out of the white van and tried to get into the closed gas station, witnesses said. He was unsuccessful, but managed to get inside the restaurant next door, screaming that he had been shot and asking someone to call an ambulance.
Someone inside offered him water. He took a few sips, then began to spit out blood.
Early Thursday morning, police officers blocked off the Citgo gas station with yellow crime tape as they investigated the scene of the shooting.
A white Chevrolet van stood near one of the fuel pumps with its driver's door open. Near the car's front passenger door, a single Air Jordan shoe lied on the pavement next to some blood stains.
No one was in custody as a result of the shooting early Thursday morning.
