Man hurt in drive-by shooting in Mount Prospect

Nov. 06--A 21-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in northwest suburban Mount Prospect on Wednesday night, authorities said.

The incident, which is possibly gang related, happened around 8:20 p.m. near Algonquin Road and Dempster Street, according to a news release from Mount Prospect police.

The man, an Arlington Heights resident, was standing with a group of people near a dumpster in the area when a white vehicle, which was traveling northwest on Algonquin, passed by, according to the release.

People in the vehicle "yelled something out the window," then the front seat passenger fired shots three times at the group, authorities said.

The 21-year-old was wounded in the arm and taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. His injury was non-life-threatening, according to the release.

The gunman also shot at a 38-year-old Arlington Heights man but the bullet put a hole through his clothing and he was not wounded, authorities said.

The white vehicle involved in the shooting was possibly a Honda or Hyundai , according to police.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Mount Prospect Police Department Investigations Section at 847-870-5654.

To make an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 847-590-7867. According to the release, tips made through Crime Stoppers are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
