Man hurt in drive-by shooting in Mount Prospect

Nov. 06--A 21-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in northwest suburban Mount Prospect Wednesday night, authorities said.

The incident, which is possible gang related, happened around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Dempster Street, according to a press release from Mount Prospect Police Department.

The man, who is an Arlington Heights resident, was standing with a group of people near a dumpster in the area when a white vehicle, which was traveling northwestbound on Algonquin Road, passed by, the release said.

People inside the vehicle "yelled something out the window," then the front seat passenger fired shots three times at the group outside, the release said.

The 21-year-old was wounded in the arm and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with. His injury is non-life-threatening, the release said.

A 38-year-old Arlington Heights man was also shot at, but the bullet missed him, piercing a hole through his clothing, the release said. He was not wounded.

The white vehicle involved in the shooting was possibly a Honda or Hyundai , the release said.

Mount Prospect police are still investigating the incident.

To make an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 847-590-7867. According to the release, tips made through Crime Stoppers are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
