SA KAEO: A man was seriously wounded after stepping on a landmine while collecting plants in a forest near the Thai-Cambodian border in Ta Phraya district, Sa Kaeo, on Saturday morning.
Surasak Promsu, 44, a resident of tambon Thap Thai of Ta Phraya district, sustained severe injuries to his right ankle when rescue workers and an ambulance arrived at the forest along Sripen Road in Thatim Siam 03 village, said district chief Arayan Thayai, who was alerted by the tambon chief at around 9.50am.
The injured villager was sent to Ta Phraya Hospital.
An interrogation found that Mr Surasak went to the forest to collect wild plants for sale at a weekend market. The forest was earlier declared off-limits to outsiders.
Border patrol police had erected warning signposts along Sripen, a road along the Thai-Cambodian border, about remaining landmines.
