Two women were left shocked after a man hurled a tub of barbecue sauce at them from a car in a random attack in Co Kildare.
The pair was out for a walk on Sallins Road in Naas at 8pm on Sunday night when they noticed a man leaning out of his car near the traffic lights.
Before they could react, the man threw a tub of sauce all over them and sped off.
The incident happened to local councillor Bill Clear's wife and her sister who were left stunned and covered in sauce.
He said: "I actually went down and saw a tub of sauce there this morning. It went all over their clothes and their faces. They happen to see the car - it was a silver Volkswagen Golf.
"[The tub] was the size of about a half tin of beans. They weren’t just firing it out the window, the guy had got out of the window. They were quite taken aback."
Cllr Clear said people have become more aware of public safety following the case of Ashling Murphy who was killed when she went for a jog along the Grand Canal in Tullamore on January 12.
He told RTE's Liveline: "When I do go down myself there are not as many people in these places as there were before.
"There are no people on the street so this is what you have to put up with. This kind of behaviour you have to put up with on the Main Street."
Cllr Clear said the incident has been reported to the gardai and they are "fairly confident" they’ll find the preparator.
