Man hospitalised with serious injuries after terrifying assault in Dublin city centre

A man was seriously injured after being attacked by two men in a terrifying assault in Dublin city centre.

The incident happened on Upper Abbey Street on Thursday evening.

The victim, who was aged in his 40s, received serious head injuries in the assault.

He was rushed to the nearby Mater Hospital for treatment, and his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

After a follow-up search, officers arrested two men, both in their 30s.

They were brought to Store Street Garda Station where they are currently being held.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Store Street are investigating a serious assault which occurred on Upper Abbey Street, Dublin 1 yesterday evening Thursday 23rd July, 2020.

"A male, aged in his early 40s, received serious head injuries when he was assaulted by two men. He was removed to the Mater hospital where he is currently being treated. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

"A follow up search of the area located the two men (both in the 30s) who were involved in the assault. They were arrested and conveyed to Store Street Garda Station where they are currently detained under Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"Investigations are ongoing."
