A man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Cumbernauld.

The 37-year-old pedestrian was struck at around 6.15pm yesterday (June 3) on the town's A8011 Central Way.

He was taken to Monklands Hospital for treatment and his condition is described as "serious" by police.

The 84-year-old male driver of the silver BMW 1 series involved was also taken to hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be serious.

PC Fraser McEwan told Lanarkshire Live : "Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who has information which hasn't been passed to police yet to come forward.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time.

"Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 2904 of June 3."
