Man hospitalised with apparent stab wound in alleged assault in Cork

A man has been hospitalised with an apparent stab wound following an alleged assault in Cork this evening.

The incident happened at a licenced premises on Paul Street in Cork City.

Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene at around 6.25pm when a man in his 20s who was working at the premises sustained an apparent stab wound.

He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital and Gardai say his injuries are not life threatening.

A garda spokesman said: "A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at the Bridewell Garda Station.

"Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at the Bridewell Garda Station 021-4943330 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
