Man hospitalised following kitchen blaze in Crosshouse

A man was taken to hospital following a kitchen fire in Crosshouse earlier this week.

The casualty suffered from severe smoke inhalation following the late night blaze on the village's Irvine Road on Tuesday evening.

Police closed the road to allow fire and ambulance crews deal with the emergency incident shortly before 11pm.

At around midnight, crews were still at the scene.

Stagecoach reported on the evening of the incident shortly after midnight that there would be a delay to their number 11 service because of a fire in the village.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 10.49pm on Tuesday, September 3 to reports of a fire within a first floor flat in Crosshouse, East Ayrshire.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire engines to the town’s Irvine Road, where firefighters were met by a fire within the kitchen.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to ventilate the area.

“One male casualty suffering from severe smoke inhalation was given oxygen therapy by crews before being passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.

“Crews left the scene after making the area safe.”
