Man hospitalised following horror car crash on icy roads in Kildare

Two men were lucky to be alive following a serious car crash in Kildare on Thursday morning.

Met Eireann has warned of 'treacherous conditions' hitting part of the country as frost and ice sweeps across the country with plummeting temperatures.

The horror crash involving two cars occurred on the R448 in Castledermot, Co. Kildare.

One of the drivers was aged in his 20s while the other was aged in his 60s.

Dramatic pictures show one of the cars overturned on its side with the front totally destroy in the icy conditions.

Emergency services rushed to the scene before one man was taken Kilkenny Hospital for his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision this morning, Thursday, 7 of January 2021 on the R448 in Castledermot, Co. Kildare.

"Two vehicles were involved in this collision, one driven by a male in his 20s and the other driven by a male in his 60s.

"One driver was conveyed to Kilkenny Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured."
