Man hospitalised after violent burglary in broad daylight as gardai appeal for witnesses

A man aged in his 60s has been hospitalised after violent, broad daylight burglary in Co Meath.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at a house in the Hill of Down area on Monday.

Shortly after 1pm, two men entered a residence and attacked a man aged in his 60s. After they left, jewellery and a sum of cash were reported stolen.

The occupant of the house sustained a number of injuries and was later taken to Mullingar General Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Gardai have requested anyone who may have camera footage of the area taken yesterday afternoon, including dash-cam, to come forward as it may assist them in their enquiries.

They are appealing for individuals who were present in the area between 10.30am and 3.30pm to contact them if they believe they have witnessed something related to the incident.

There have been no arrests made so far in the investigation.

A spokesperson said: "Gardai are appealing for witnesses in relation to an aggravated burglary that occurred in the Hill of Down area of Meath yesterday, Monday, May 16 2022.

"Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Hill of Down and Kinnegad areas between 10:30am – 3:30pm on Monday, 16th May 2022, and who may have witnessed anything.

"Anyone with camera footage from the area at this time (including dash-cam) is asked to make this available to investigating gardai"
