Man hospitalised after shocking acid attack at hands of thug at home in Garryowen, Co Limerick

A man was hospitalised after a shocking acid attack at the hands of a thug in Co Limerick.

The victim was being treated in University Hospital Limerick after having the corrosive substance thrown in his face.

It's understood the attack happened at a home in Garryowen on Monday night.

Gardai launched an investigation and on Thursday morning arrested a man, in his 30s.

He is being quizzed at Henry Street Garda Station in connection with the assault.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí have arrested a man in relation to an assault in Garryowen, Co Limerick on the night of June 13, 2020.

"Gardaí in Henry Street received a report in relation to an alleged assault incident that occurred at a house in Garryowen, Co Limerick.

"A man is believed to have had a corrosive substance thrown in his face during the incident.

"The man presented himself to University Hospital Limerick for treatment and was later discharged.

"This morning Gardaí arrested a man, aged in his 30s, in relation to this matter. He is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984."
