Man hospitalised after serious assault in Kilmarnock town centre

A man was hospitalised after being assaulted on Kilmarnock's busiest street at the weekend.

The 33-year-old was attacked by another man on John Finnie Street at around 6pm on Sunday.

The victim was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital after members of the public rushed to the man's aid.

Police confirmed today that the man was treated for his injuries and later released.

The suspect is described as white and of heavy build. He was wearing a grey zip-up top.

Detective Constable Keith Hyndes, of Kilmarnock police station, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we are continuing to study local CCTV footage to gather more information on this attack.

“A man and a woman went to the aid of the injured man immediately after he was assaulted, however, they had left on police arrival. I would appeal to them to contact us as soon as possible.

“John Finnie Street was busy at the time of the incident and I would also appeal to any further witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact officers through 101 with reference 3258 of August 29.

"Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
