Man hospitalised after falling from top of lorry on M5

A man has been hospitalised with multiple injuries after falling from the top of a lorry on the M5.

The incident took place on the northbound carriageway near Almondsbury on Thursday morning (January 9).

The man suffered a suspected head injury in the fall but was understood to be "conscious and breathing" while he was being treated by paramedics, Somerset Live reports.

One lane of the M5 between J15 and J14 was closed while ambulance crews attended the scene.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "It was reported to us that someone had fallen from the top of a lorry.

"Our crews treated a male patient at the scene and transported him to hospital by land ambulance for further care.

"The patient was understood to be conscious and breathing, and to have a suspected head injury."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary added: "The casualty was taken to hospital and is reported to have shoulder and chest injuries which are not believed to be life threatening or life changing."
