Man hospitalised after being attacked by gang in late-night robbery

A man has been left 'shaken' after being ambushed and robbed by a group of men in a Scots town.

Police say that the gang pounced on a 20-year-old man in a lane between Kilcreggan View and Clynder Road in Greenock at around 10pm on Thursday, 4 August.

The group are believed to have taken personal belongings before fleeing in a black car. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after and the victim was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Officers are appealing for anyone who could assist with their enquiries to come forward. They are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the attack or was in the area at the time to get in contact.

Detective Constable Rebecca Cox, of Greenock CID, said: "The victim has been left shaken by this incident and we are appealing for information to help trace those involved. We believe the suspects were travelling in a black car and would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, and who witnessed the incident, or saw a black vehicle, to contact officers.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone with potential private CCTV, dashcam or video doorbell footage. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information that can assist with our investigation should contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3699 of Thursday, 4 August, 2022.

"Alternatively, a call can be made anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
